Frames – beginning and end ….

February 28, 2018

This important phase of the restoration has been covered previously with photos and explanations but I feel that it once the planking starts to cover the frames we should not loose an appreciation for the time, effort, money and ingenuity that went into achieving the amazing feat of  almost total reframing of the hull.  Initially hardwood timber was purchased from a timber mill, then the packs of reclaimed local wharf timber became available. These timbers were either shaped or laminated in to frames to be fitted to the hull. The photos show a small part of the tremendous effort – the pack of wharf timber with frame section beside it, the glueing process with dozens of clamps needed, the frame sections then needing sanding / planing and painting  and lastly new frame sections fitted to the hull.
