Removing more planks ….
The lower starboard planks are being removed by the volunteers. The ship is being prepared for the shipwrights to inspect the frames below the water line. Generally every second plank can be removed without compromising the shape of the hull. It appears that the removed planks are not suitable for refitting and may be used in some other way – furniture, ceilings etc. The metal spikes and dumps will need to be removed from the frames. The frames that remain will have the holes plugged ready for the new planks. Some ” rotten ” frames will be removed and replaced with new hardwood timber.
