Strake positioning ….

May 30, 2016

The shipwrights have spent many hours laying out the positioning of the strakes or planks. Most of the small battens that were measured and attached to the frames have been removed. In their place are shallow saw marks showing the exact position for the strake. Each strake will be exactly the same distance down from the margin board as is on the starboard side. These distances were measured to the millimetre by the shipwrights. Instructions such as “drill from inside” leave no doubt about how to proceed. Every second strake will be fixed to the frames replicating the starboard side – this will give sufficient rigidity to the hull for further strakes to be removed.
