Port beam shelf replacement ….

March 6, 2016

A seven metre long piece of salvaged hardwood has been shaped to the correct thickness and width to be used as a replacement section of the beam shelf on the port side near the bow. Sections of the original beam shelf were deemed irrepairable. The new section weighing several hundred kilograms was carried to the ship from the shed, winched up the scaffolding and pushed through a hole in the hull. It has been supported by two custom made steel brackets. This beam needs to be steamed and clamped in position to be the correct shape. It will the be bolted and dumped to the hull frames and deck beams.
